Okay, so I’m just not ready to let go of summer just yet. I’m enjoying as many iced beverages as I can and not planning to pull out those Fall clothes until I absolutely have to. You have to realize that summer is literally the best time of the year here in Seattle. Once Fall settles in, there are a lot of gray skies. And rain. Yes, the rain. For about 6 months straight (I’m still recovering from last year, can you tell?).

While matcha is pretty trendy right now, it also comes with many key benefits that make it an enticing drink of choice. Matcha comes with a number of nutritious benefits, including antioxidants, chlorophyll, and minerals. The amino acid (L-theanine) offers a calming effect on the mind and is known to increase dopamine, serotonin, and GABA levels in the brain. All of these elements together promote mental clarity and focus, making it the perfect beverage to enjoy early morning or late afternoon.
If you follow me on Instagram Stories, you know how much I adore my morning matcha ritual. It’s usually how I start a majority of my days after a glass of warm lemon water. Matcha has been my favorite go-to beverage for about a year now. Matcha green tea has made its way to a secure a spot on many coffee shop menus as a tasty caffeinated alternative to coffee. You can enjoy it hot or cold, but those $5 matcha lattes can quickly add up and start making a dent in your wallet. A simple matcha latte is also one of the easiest beverages to make, averaging a few minutes, especially if you use a high-speed blender like the Vitamix.
Iced Hemp Matcha Latte Recipe
This quick and easy recipe takes a fraction of the time it takes to drive to your favorite coffee shop, find parking (which is a challenge of its own living in a bigger city), place your order, and wait for it to be served. Sounds like a heck of a deal to me! The best part: you choose your ingredients and their quality. You can invest in a high-quality matcha tea and use other clean ingredients. If you use my method, you don’t even need a fancy bamboo whisk. All you need is:
- matcha green tea
- hemp seeds (my little delightful bonus packed with so many nutrients!)
- coconut butter (optional)
- a sweetener (optional)
A high-speed blender quickly (less than 30 seconds) turns it into silky smooth and frothy beverage, which tastes just perfect over ice. It’s different from most other recipes out there as it’s packed with additional benefits from the hemp seeds, which contains 10g of plant-based protein, 13g of healthy fats, and 3g of fiber in a 3 tablespoon serving.

- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 tbsp hempseeds (raw and shelled)
- 1 tsp coconut butter
- 1/2 tsp matcha green tea
- 1/2 tsp vanilla bean extract
- 1 tsp maple syrup (optional)
- Combine all of the ingredients into your Vitamix.
- Blend until smooth and creamy (about 30 seconds to a minute).
- Pour over ice and enjoy!
- And if you want to turn this into a hot beverage, just let your Vitamix run longer until you see steam seeping from the top.
