Learn how to make the perfect grapefruit mimosa with this simple and refreshing recipe. Perfect for brunch and a must for any special occasion, this drink is easy to make and calls for 2 simple ingredients.

Two glasses of grapefruit mimosa with a grapefruit on the side.

Whether you're looking for a refreshing drink to unwind or serve at your next brunch, Valentine's Day, or Mother's Day, you'll absolutely love this twist on the classic mimosa. It's tangy, easy to make, and only requires two simple ingredients.

    Ingredients you'll need

To get started, you'll only need the following two ingredients:

    • Dry sparkling wine: Since you'll be mixing the wine with juice, a lower to mid-priced dry wine works great. I suggest using a Cava (from Spain) or Prosecco (from Italy). It should cost anywhere between $12 - $16 for a bottle.
    • Grapefruit juice: Either use freshly pressed grapefruit juice or use store-bought grapefruit juice. Be sure to chill the juice in the fridge before preparing the drink.
    • Sliced grapefruit: Slice a fresh grapefruit into small wedges. This is used for garnish and adds a nice touch. Feel free to omit.

    Wine to juice ratio

The classic mimosa ratio calls for half wine and half juice, which is how much I use in this recipe. However, you may find that you prefer more wine than juice.

How much you use is a personal preference and completely up to you. I'd suggest starting with 50% wine and 50% juice ratio. If you prefer your drink on the sweeter side next time, add more juice. Otherwise, use more wine.

How to make a grapefruit mimosa

    1. Prepare the drink: Slowly fill half of each champagne flute glass with chilled sparkling wine. Tilt the glass at a 45-degree angle. Slowly fill the remaining half with grapefruit juice. Do not stir the drink.
    2. Garnish and serve: Garnish with a small slice of grapefruit and serve immediately.
Two grapefruit mimosas next to a sliced grapefruit.

Top tips on making the best mimosas

    • Use chilled ingredients: Be sure you're using chilled ingredients as mimosas taste best when chilled.
    • Remove pulp from juice: If juicing fresh grapefruits, be sure to strain the juice through a fine-mesh sieve. Alternatively, if using store-bought grapefruit juice, purchase with no pulp or else strain before using.
    • Avoid juice from concentrate: If using store-bought juice, make sure it's 100% juice and not from concentrate.

    Commonly asked questions

    • Can I make this drink non-alcoholic? Absolutely. Instead of the wine, swap with sparkling grape juice or any other sparkling beverage.
    • Should I add ice? There's no need to add ice. Just make sure that both the wine and juice are chilled before making the drink.
