Cook perfectly tender, fluffy jasmine rice in your Instant Pot every time with this quick, easy, fail-proof recipe! Perfect as a side dish or addition to your next stir-fry.

One of the things I love cooking the most in my Instant Pot is all sorts of grains. Whether it's quinoa, wheat berries, Basmati rice, brown rice, or black rice, the pressure cooker makes it convenient to whip up a batch and allows me to step away while my grains cook.

Jasmine rice is easy to make with the Instant Pot. All you need are a few ingredients, including:

    • Jasmine rice
    • Water
    • An Instant Pot (I use both the Instant Pot Duo Mini 3-Quart and Instant Pot DUO 6-Quart with great results)
    • Measuring cup
    • Fine mesh sieve or a bowl - to rinse the rice

    Jasmine rice-to-water ratio

To make a batch of jasmine rice or really any type of rice, the ratio between water and rice is extremely important to achieve a perfectly tender texture.

I use this simple formula when I’m cooking it in the pressure cooker:

For 1 cup of jasmine rice, use 1 cup of water.

Pro tip: try using broth or stock instead of water for added flavor. For coconut-flavored rice, try light coconut milk!

How to cook jasmine rice in the Instant Pot

    1. Rinse the rice: Rinse the jasmine rice in a mesh sieve under cool running water for a few minutes. Drain well.

    2. Combine ingredients: In the insert of the Instant Pot, combine the water and jasmine rice.

Pro tip: To add a deeper flavor to the jasmine rice, simply sautee it with oil or butter in the Instant Pot insert for a few minutes before adding the water and pressure cooking it.

Hand pouring cup of water in the Instant Pot with jasmine rice.

    3. Pressure cook: Close the Instant Pot lid, set the valve on “sealing”, and cook on high pressure for 3 minutes. Once completed, turn off the Instant Pot and wait 10 minutes to naturally release the pressure. Quick-release any remaining pressure* and remove the lid.

    4. Fluff and serve: Using a fork, fluff the perfectly cooked jasmine rice. Serve immediately or cool down before storing for later.

    Storing and reheating

To store: Store up to 5 days in a sealed container in the fridge.

To freeze: Make a bigger batch of rice and store it in the freezer for up to 3 months.

To reheat: Thaw and reheat in a saucepan. Add a few drops of water if it's dry.

    Frequently asked questions

Do you have to rinse jasmine rice? Yes, rinse under cool water to remove any unwanted debris.

How do you quick-release pressure? Quick-release by carefully turning the steam valve to the “Venting” position. Once the steam has completely escaped, the pin will down. You can now carefully open the Instant Pot lid.

What size Instant Pot did you use? I’ve tested this recipe on both my Instant Pot Duo Mini 3-Quart and Instant Pot DUO 6-Quart with great results. However, you may need to tweak how long you cook the rice, based on preference, the size, model, and brand of your pressure cooker.

    Serving suggestions

Prepared jasmine rice can be used in many ways and makes a tasty addition to meals. The following are a few ways to enjoy it:

    • Enjoy it in a quick and easy stir-fry
    • Serve as a side to Indian Chickpea Curry or lentils
    • Enjoy it with Cauliflower Tikka Masala
    • Serve it with veggies, such as broccoli, carrots, or beets
    • Serve it with beans, such as pinto or black beans
